The Story
Pickwick is named for the little corner of Syracuse, Indiana where I first picked up golf. A lake town with a public course, borrowed clubs, and summer evenings that ran long. Nobody checked a member number and nobody checked an outfit. The game was just the game, and it belonged to whoever showed up.
But as a young Black golfer with long hair, there was nothing out there for me. Every hat flattened it, snagged it, or ripped it out at the velcro, and the choice was always the same: protect your hair or play the game.
Pickwick makes the thing I could not find. Real headwear for textured hair, satin lined like a bonnet, built for the course. We make our home in Seattle now. This is release one, and there is a lot more coming.
Country club sports. Without the country club attitude.
